TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – For the second time in his career, Florida State cross country runner Adriaan Wildschutt was named the 2021 USTFCCCA Men's South Region Athlete of the Year.
Wildschutt is the only Seminole in history to capture the honor multiple times. The Ceres, South Africa, native also took home the title in 2020 following his runner-up finish at the NCAA Championships in March of 2021.
He is also one of four FSU athletes win the award, joining Ciaran O’Lionaird (2010), David Forrester (2011) and Jakub Zivec (2012).
“Adriaan had one of the finest seasons in South Region history,” FSU head coach Bob Braman said. “He dominated the region, but he’s also been one of the nation's finest for the entire year.”
Wildschutt became the second Seminole in history to earn back-to-back All-America honors after he placed sixth in the men’s 10k at the NCAA Championships, crossing the line with a personal best of 28:52.0.
