2021 World Juniors USA vs Austria game recap: Americans respond with big win

Two goals in 28 seconds early in the second period opened the floodgates as the United States beat Austria 11-0 on Saturday night at the World Junior Hockey Championship in Edmonton, Alberta.
Trevor Zegras made the game 2-0 on a perfect shot from inside the right circle, and added his second of the night later in the period. He also had two assists.
John Farinacci made it 3-0 right after the first Zegras goal. Brandon Brisson and Matthew Boldy also scored in the Americans’ six-goal second period. Boldy had two in the second, and added the hat trick goal in the third period. Brisson also added a goal in the third period. Alex Turcotte had three assists.

As the COVID-19 pandemic caused the IIHF to cancel almost every single international tournament on its schedule, many feared that the 2021 World Junior Hockey Championship would be next. However, the IIHF found a way to go ahead with the marquee event of the year and worked together with Hockey Canada to move the event to the NHL’s former bubble in Edmonton.
