Seniors are waiting longer for beds in long-term care homes across the province, the Ontario Long-Term Care Association (OLTCA) warned, adding their projections show the situation isn’t likely to improve over the next decade.
There’s a movement afoot to have a provincial policy changed that some say pressures long term care homes to evict residents if they’re in hospital and haven’t used their rooms due to medical absence.
It’s a case that some say exposes flaws in the province’s long-term care system. Advocates are speaking out after their friend, a vulnerable woman, was evicted from Glendale Crossing long-term care home in London because she hadn’t slept in her room for three months, as she had been in hospital.
The Ministry of Long-Term Care has charged the County of Simcoe another $16,500 in administrative penalties for two outstanding non-compliance orders at Sunset Manor in Collingwood.
