Kansas City Royals shortstop Adalberto Mondesi was activated off the injured list and will make his season debut against the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday night.
The 25-year-old Mondesi missed Kansas City s first 45 games due to a right oblique strain he sustained in late March.
Mondesi was slated to bat seventh in Tuesday s lineup against the host Tampa Bay Rays.
Mondesi batted .256 and led the majors with 24 steals in 59 games last season. He had six homers and 22 RBIs.
Mondesi has a .251 career average and 113 stolen bases in 308 games over the past five seasons. He has 32 homers and 137 RBIs.

The Kansas City Royals have announced they have activated shortstop Adalberto Mondesi from the injured list and he is set to make his season debut tonight against the Tampa Bay Rays.
MLB.com reported Mondesi was with the team in Tampa Bay and was ready to be activated. The 25-year-old went through defensive work and warmups with the team prior to the lineup release.
Mondesi has yet to play for Kansas City this season as he started the year on the injured list. In a shortened 2020 season, Mondesi slashed .256/.294/.416 with a .710 OPS in 59 games. Mondesi led the league in stolen bases last year with 24. The shortstop also had 11 home runs and 22 RBIs in 2020.

The Royals have activated shortstop Adalberto Mondesi from the Injured List and he is in the starting lineup tonight against Tampa Bay. Yesterday, the club optioned pitcher Jake Newberry to Triple-A Omaha. Mondesi had missed the first 45 games with an oblique injury he suffered just before Opening Day.
The Royals were hoping for a breakout season by Mondesi after he finished last year on a tear. The switch-hitting shortstop hit .376/.424/.706 with six home runs and seven walks in his last 22 games of 2020 after getting off to a dreadful start. But injuries have plagued Mondesi his entire career. He has never played more than 102 games in a Major League season, missing time in 2018 with a shoulder impingement and in 2019 with a groin injury and later a shoulder injury that required surgery.
