In Framingham, pandemic has students on the cusp taking a hit
FRAMINGHAM With his eighth-grade year nearly half done, Jake Martel, 14, has not stepped into Cameron Middle School since last March.
Like all students in the district, Jake learns fully remotely. Without extra in-person support, his mother, Christina Martel, said he is struggling and fears he’s falling too far behind.
Previously, Jake was on an individualized education program, a legal document that maps out the special services a student should receive. His program addressed anxiety and attention deficit disorder.
For the 2019-20 school year, the family decided to put him on the so-called 504 plan as he had been making progress. That document describes how the district will provide support and remove barriers for a student with disabilities.
