Central Florida’s Danny White has reached a deal with UT to become the school’s new athletic director. USA Today first reported the news and the university released White’s hire later Thursday afternoon.
“Danny White is an innovative leader in college athletics with a strong track record in recruiting and developing leaders,” UT Chancellor Donde Plowman said in the release.
Said White: “My first task will be taking on the search for a new head football coach. But I want all Vols to know that I am deeply committed to excellence in all our athletic programs.”

Matt Hayes, a writer for the SaturdayDownSouth.com website, was blistering in his view of what has been allowed to happen to the once-mighty University of Tennessee football program just hours after coach Jeremy Pruitt went down in flames on Monday. “I’ve got some harsh words for those in power at Tennessee, something they don’t want to hear but better embrace. It’s not the 1990s anymore. Tennessee will never be elite again,” Matt wrote.
“After yet another coach failed to make it work on Rocky Top,” Matt reasoned, “and Jeremy Pruitt was fired after 3 seasons and amid an NCAA investigation, it can no longer be denied: The days of Tennessee consistently winning big and competing at the highest level of college football are long gone.”

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - More fallout from the college football recruiting scandal thatâs cost the University of Tennessee its Head Coach and Athletic Director.
Now, itâs cost them their top returning Running Back. Multiple reports said Memphian Eric Gray is entering the NCAA Transfer Portal. Gray, who prepped at Lausanne Collegiate School, led the Vols in rushing and ranked among the SEC leaders in yards from scrimmage as a sophomore in 2020.

Tennessee offensive lineman Jahmir Johnson entered the transfer portal on Wednesday, and Syracuse is among the schools who have already reached out. Other schools include Texas Tech, Houston, Maryland, Oklahoma State and Arizona State. Johnson is a graduate transfer with one year of eligibility remaining.
Johnson is a former class of 2016 prospect out of Imhotep in Philadelphia. He signed with Rhode Island and spent one season there before transferring to Arizona Western Junior College. Johnson spent one season at the JUCO level before signing with Tennessee as part of their 2018 class. He chose the Volunteers over Arkansas, Arizona, Cincinnati, Iowa State, Maryland, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Ole Miss, Pittsburgh, Texas, USC, Utah and West Virginia, among others.
