Congress leader and former corporator Prathibha Kulai invited controversy by announcing a bounty of Rs 1 lakh for blackening the face of the BJP District Vice President Jagadish Adhikari for his alleged remarks against Billava community, folklore legends Koti-Chennaya and senior Congress leader B Janardhana Poojary.
She made the statement on a Facebook video. She said, “Adhikari should arrive at Garadi and tender an apology by offering ‘tappu kanike’ within three days. Or else, anyone from the Billava community can smear ink to his face. I will give Rs 1 lakh reward to the person,” she said, insisting that he should apologise by falling at the feet of Poojary.
Adhikari’s remarks went viral on social media.
MANGALURU: After making unsavoury remarks against Koti-Chennaya the legendary Tuluva twin heroes Billava community and former Union minister B Janardhan Poojary, Bharatiya Janata Party Dakshina Kannada district vice president Jagadish Adhikari tendered an apology on Saturday.
Soon after Adhikari’s remarks went viral on social media, people cutting across political parties started raising objections and demanded an apology from the senior Keranataka leader.
While Congress leaders Mithun Rai, Harish Kumar, Prathibha Kulai and others lashed out at Adhikari, Vishwa Hindu Parishad, division secretary Sharan Pumpwell too joined the chorus and demanded an unconditional apology from the BJP leader.

BJP district vice-president Jagadish Adhikari’s statement allegedly defaming senior Congress leader B. Janardhana Poojary, and his comments about Billavas and the revered twins Koti Chennayya, has put him in the dock.
Though Mr. Adhikari apologised for his statements, the Congress and other organisations have demanded disciplinary action against him. BJP district president Sudhershan Moodbidri said a notice was issued asking Mr. Adhikari’s explanation and he was directed to seek an apology of Billavas and Mr. Poojary.
