In an exclusive interview with the Daily Sun, Commerce Secretary Dr Md Jafar Uddin shared insights on the government’s strategies and ambitions regarding the country’s LDC graduation. Hasibul Aman Despite some challenges, LDC graduation will create opportunities for Bangladesh and it has the capabilities to face the challenges, Commerce Secretary Dr Md Jafar Uddin has said. “We are not frightened about LDC graduation as we have the potential and capacity for tapping those opportunities,” he told the Daily Sun on Wednesday in an exclusive interview.

TCB goods available online Staff Correspondent Staff Correspondent People can now purchase essential products of Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) at less than market prices online. The state agency said it will sell sugar, lentil, edible oil and chickpea through certain online stores to enable the middle-income people to buy essential goods staying at home during the Ramadan. Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi inaugurated the activities virtually organised by e-Commerce Association of Bangladesh (e-CAB) with the support of TCB. The minister said the TCB presently sells essential commodities in the open market so that the poor and low-income people get the products at subsidised rates.

Govt launches $7 5m Covid response fund

Entrepreneurs will now get financial support from the government to produce medical and personal protective equipment (MPPE) for both local and international markets as the fight against Covid-19 continues. Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi yesterday launched a $7.5 million Covid-19 response fund to help private enterprises procure the necessary equipment in this regard as the demand for MPPE products has ballooned amid an ongoing second wave of infections. The fund, styled Covid-19 Enterprise Response Fund (CERF) , is an initiative of the Export Competitiveness for Jobs (EC4J) project which is currently being implemented by the commerce ministry with support from World Bank Group.
