Website listing Toronto businesses with vaccination policies shuts down after receiving hateful messages

Last Updated Wednesday, July 21, 2021 9:10PM EDT A new website meant to help customers find Toronto businesses with vaccinated staff or those that have COVID-19 vaccination policies has been forced to shut down after people started leaving fake google reviews and sending hateful messages. According to the website, SafeTO-Do was launched with the hopes of helping customers make an informed decision over what businesses they feel safe visiting. It listed businesses that announced their staff’s vaccination status or have vaccine policies for higher-risk settings. Thirty-eight Toronto businesses were listed on the website as of July 20. However, the organizer of the website announced later that night they would be shutting down.

New website aims to help Ontarians by listing businesses that require proof of vaccination

Mattalo said the idea for the website arose because he wanted to find a gym that had vaccination requirements for staff and customers. Gyms opened on Friday when Ontario entered Step 3 of the province s reopening plan. The website launched after GoodLife Fitness announced this week it would not require proof of vaccination from its staff and members.  It wasn t meant to be anything political Mattalo, however, says he has received his share of negativity online in response to his newly launched website. He said has received messages from those opposed to the use of face masks to prevent transmission of the virus, those opposed to the use of vaccination to develop immunity against infectious disease, and those opposed to the concept of a vaccination passport, a document that is proof that the holder has received two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine.
