The ferociously potent opioid being cut with virtually every street drug in the country killed a record 75,000 Americans in 2021, the equivalent of 1,500 lives lost every week.
A train was searched by officials from the US Customs and Border Protection as it came into Nogales, Arizona. It was carrying 736,200 fentanyl pills and 196 pounds of methamphetamines.
The Drug Enforcement Administration said it had captured 50.6 million fake prescription pills laced with fentanyl and 10,000 pounds of fentanyl powder during the year. A fatal dose is just 2mg.
