The first students to ever receive bachelor s degrees from Cincinnati State Technical and Community College will graduate this spring through the college s land surveying program, officials said.
Like other Ohio community colleges, Cincinnati State has awarded two-year associate degrees and certificates only since 1969. But in 2018, the Ohio Department of Higher Education announced two-year institutions could propose applied bachelor s degree programs to the state chancellor. The proposals must be in fields where there is a strong workforce need, and no nearby four year college with a similar program.
Cincinnati State was of the first community colleges to apply, requesting bachelor s degrees in land surveying and in culinary and food science. Both proposals have since been approved, and officials say the first culinary and food science bachelor s degrees will be awarded in spring 2023.
