“A few years ago we realised technology and science didn’t feature in our programme at the level it should. To address that we did two things. “We started developing a [science, technology, engineering and maths] programme in school and connecting with students, their ability to make decisions, and act in terms of their learning.” It took about three years. Science, technology, engineering and maths subjects are now a major part of the curriculum and there has been an increase in children’s performances. Broodryk said teachers’ knowledge and attitude towards technology and science had grown.
