In addition to surveying future high school 13 students, a naming committee will reconvene in the coming weeks to create a “list of diverse names” for the board to consider at its Feb. 9 meeting.
The board decided to forgo vetting the bill through its legislative committee in order to come out with an official stance ahead of a Dec. 14 public hearing.
On Monday, the Howard County Board of Education will swear in its newly elected at-large members – former educator Jacky McCoy, of Columbia, and engineer Linfeng Chen, of North Laurel – to help oversee 77 county schools, more than 57,000 students and a $1 billion operation budget.
