Hawks Meet Indians For District Title

The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys basketball team travels to West Liberty tonight to face Camanche with the class 2A district nine championship on the line. Mid-Prairie enters the game with a 15-7 overall record, they blasted West Liberty to open the playoffs Thursday 65-35 in Wellman behind 17 points from Jackson Pennington and 12 each from Carter Harmsen and Alex Bean. On the season, Mid-Prairie is led by Harmsen at 18 points and seven rebounds per game. Pennington leads the Hawks with five assists and two steals a night. Camanche is 16-6 on the season, they cruised through Wilton to open the playoffs last week 67-51 led by a 26 points 12 rebound performance from Zach Erwin. Jordan Lawrence added 12 points and Mike Delzell 11. On the season, the Indians are led by Erwin and Lawrence at 15 points per game each. Zayne Feller is best on the glass at seven rebounds. The first step to get to Wells Fargo Arena was checked off the list for the Mid-Prairie boys’ basketball team last night when they opened up the postseason with a 65-35 win over West Liberty in a class 2A district semifinal.  As heard on KCII, it was slow going for the Golden Hawks in the first six minutes with the Comets taking advantage of offensive rebounds and held a 9-5 lead. A pair of triples by Jackson Pennington and Alex Bean to close the quarter is all the Hawks needed for the floodgates to open. A three point barrage ensued in the second quarter with Mid-Prairie holding a 29-18 advantage at half and a 21-4 third quickly put the game to bed. The high octane Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys basketball team has put on a show when they have been on the floor in the first half of the season. Racing out of the gate to a 3-1 start, the Hawks have posted impressive numbers on the offensive end of the floor. Mid-Prairie is averaging 17 assists per game, sixth best in class 2A in the state of Iowa. Junior guard Jackson Pennington leads the way for the Hawks, dishing out a team best 6.3 helpers per game, that number is third best in the state in class 2A. Mid-Prairie is averaging nearly 65 points per contest going into the holiday break.
