Deputies responded to the scene around 10:30 p.m. Friday night at a home in the Virginia City Community, north of Ocean Springs, according to Jackson County Sheriff Mike Ezell. Officials identified the victim as 29-year-old Joseph Aaron Posey. Sheriff Ezell said no charges are filed at this time, and the shooting remains under investigation. The sheriff also said the incident appears to be domestic related.

Jackson Co sheriff running for Congress seat held by Rep Palazzo

By Adam Ganucheau Jackson County Sheriff Mike Ezell Republican Mike Ezell, who has been sheriff of Jackson County since 2014, is running for Congress in Mississippi’s 4th congressional district a seat currently held by Rep. Steven Palazzo. Ezell will formally kick off his campaign in a four-stop tour on Wednesday in Jackson, Harrison, Forrest and Jones counties. The election will be held in 2022. Palazzo has been the subject of a House ethics investigation for allegedly misspending campaign funds. A congressional ethics report made public in March alleged that Palazzo misspent campaign and congressional funds, and said it found evidence he used his office to help his brother and used staff for personal errands and services.

(WLOX) - A 66-year-old man died from injuries he suffered from a controlled burn on his property Sunday afternoon. The victim was identified Tuesday as Allen Prevost. According to Jackson County Sheriff Mike Ezell, the man was burning on his property around 4 p.m. on 25275 Larue Dantzler Road in the Larue community. The sheriff’s department and the state fire marshal are investigating.
