events of the past week. it just has too much called into question whether he has the objectivity necessary to oversee this investigation. four other democrats on the house intelligence committee now, eric swalwell, jackie spears, joaquin castro have called on nunes to recuse himself. the calls for recual came after chairman nunes confirmed reports that he met with a source at the white house the day before he went public with the information that members of the president s transition team were swept up in incidental surveillance of foreign officials. his spokesperson told nbc news chairman nunes met with the source of that information at the white house grounds in order to have proximity to a secure location where he could view the information provided by the source. congressman schiff says nunes still has not shared that information with anyone else on the intelligence committee. there is nothing normal about
and in fact, adam schiff just put out a statement, he is the democratic ranking member of the committee who was not consulted about this before nunes took it publicly. and he said he did talk to nunes afterwards and he says, well, most of the names are masked, but you still could kind of figure out who the identities were. so this story is falling apart. it was a publicity stunt, in 40 years of the house and senate intelligence committees operating, there s never been a partisan political stunt like this. it was done to give trump ammunition to cover his crazy tweets about obama illegally wiretapping him. there is nothing there, yet. i m curious, hugh hewitt, what you would say to that and jackie spear, again on in a committee, made a similar claim when we had her on earlier. this was distraction by devin nunes that donald trump claimed that president obama had personally ordered a wiretap on him. the fbi director says no evidence of that. she says, this is essentially
congresswoman jackie spear, democrat from california and a member of the house intelligence committee. congresswoman, thank you for joining us. thank you. we re going to squeeze a quick break in here. on the other side, the president s first major legislative test. this someone coming to a head probably in the next 24 hours. republicans are scrambling to line up enough republican votes. they re not going to get any democratic votes for this, enough republican votes to pass that obama carrey placement plan. they are having serious trouble doing this. a congressman and republican congressman who says he is undecided on this bill is going to join me after the break right here on msnbc.
at the same time, president trump just in the last few minutes saying he feels, quote, somewhat vindicated by what devin nunes is saying here. so a lot going on. a lot at work here. i want to bring in jackie spears. she is a member of the house intelligence committee. congresswoman, democratic congresswoman, your committee s chairman says he has this information from a source. he needed to share it with the president. he also shared it with paul ryan, the house speaker. with the cia director. is this information you have been privied to as a member of the committee? it is not. he has made the point, however, it s very important to underscore this that this was
i think we have to yeah, i think when we talk about intelligence products here, we have to be very careful. from what i know right now, it looks like incidental collection. we don t know exactly how that was picked up. but we re trying to get to the bottom of it. that is house intelligence chairman devin nunes just this afternoon saying that he is troubled by evidence that he has discovered that president trump s personal communications may have been surveilled before he took office. i want to bring in hugh hewitt, msnbc political analyst, host of the hugh hewitt show on salem radio networks and david corn in washington bureau chief. so hugh, this claim from devin nunes here, held a press conference at the white house. we talked to jackie spears, democrat on the house intelligence committee and did not tell democrats about this information that he says he s discovered. he shouldn t have given this press conference at the white house. do you think there was value in what the cha
