Families enjoy playing game to raise money in Niskayuna | The Daily Gazette SECTIONS Shares0 NISKAYUNA – Wind and colder than normal temperatures didn’t stop a couple dozen people from dabbing bingo cards with markers at River Road Park Saturday afternoon as part of an event to raise money for two organizations.  Instead, they bundled up in coats and blankets and hoped for the caller to pick the right balls for them. Laura D’Arpino said she felt “pretty good” after winning the first game. She had shown up with a couple of friends from school and their parents to support The Warrior Project. She won a small $5 gift card. The big prize of the day was a personal protective equipment basket that included a mask and hand sanitizer.

Shaker wrestling earns victory with last-match win over Niskayuna | The Daily Gazette SECTIONS Shares0 NISKAYUNA Knowing that Shaker heavyweight star Ryan Stein was looming as his team’s final opponent of the night, Niskayuna wrestling coach Shaun Neely needed his grapplers to scratch out every point possible in a desperately close Suburban Council dual meet. “Knowing we had Stein there at the end wasn’t necessarily a good feeling for us,” Neely said. “But, just getting to experience this kind of action is a breath of fresh air.” Niskayuna came close, and headed into the night’s final match with a two-point lead, but, 54 seconds later, Stein who won the Section II Division 1 220-pound championship as a sophomore in 2020 delivered a pin of Austin Priddle to give Shaker a 34-30 victory.

Gillibrand nominates area quartet to service academies

WASHINGTON — U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, incoming Chair of the Senate Armed Services Personnel Subcommittee, recently announced her nominations for candidates from the Capital Region to two of the nation’s leading service institutions: the United States Military and Air Force Academies. This year, Gillibrand nominated four candidates from the Capital Region to the service academies.
