Chief Frances Iron thought long and hard about getting a COVID-19 vaccine.
The chief of Canoe Lake Cree Nation said he was hesitant about the shot because of his traditional beliefs, including teachings about medicine he initially worried were incompatible with receiving the vaccine. In the end, he decided rolling up his sleeve was the best way to protect him, his family, and his community, he said.

The Saskatchewan government may ease most COVID-19 public health restrictions as early as mid-July under a three-step “roadmap” to loosening measures, released Tuesday.
Saskatchewan is the first province to release such a plan, which outlines a gradual easing of restrictions based on how many people in given age cohorts have received their first dose of a vaccine.

At this time last year, Jack Saddleback was working at the White Buffalo Youth lodge, trying desperately to connect people in Saskatoon’s core neighbourhoods with services after the the pandemic forced community hubs to shutter.
On Friday, he received his first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine in the stands of an empty stadium, turning another page toward the end of a dreadful chapter.
