so, listen, you ve been you ve done this before. you ve flown over hurricanes. if you look at dorian and you look at the eye and how it s intensifying, the open water, how what kind of damage if it continues along the path that it s it s on now, what kind of damage could folks expect down in florida? you know, the path four days down the road, you know, the average air in there is something like 150 miles. so it s very hard to pinpoint where the worst damage could occur in roughly four days. it certainly the populated east coast of florida is hard for it to hit a place that doesn t have a lot of buildings and doesn t have a lot of people, so everybody just has to keep paying attention to that, those hurricane center updates and reports from the aircraft. we just saw an entirely different storm today than yesterday. yesterday it was a mess. it was very difficult to make any structure at all out on the radar. today it definitely looked like a hurricane. jack parish, our hurri

the work of our next guest and others. he s somebody who heads straight for any hurricane he can. in fact, he and his team fly over into and through them. jack parish is a flight meteorologist and project manager with the national atmospheric and oceanic administration. he just landed. he joins us now by phone. jack, if you could just walk us through what you were able to see today from the air about this storm. well, hello, anderson. our team from the noaa aircraft operations center in lakeland flew the g-4 jet around several different patterns around michael. we were dropping a number of our drop instruments. we dropped 27 total today. took observations, all quadrants around the storm. today s main mission had to do with the intensification of michael. yesterday we had a really big mission that had to do with where the storm was going. today it had more to do with how strong it was going to be. and we found some things that would cause the storm to grow, a few that might keep it fr
don t expect it to crest until tuesday. that gives you the length of time that folks are going to have to be very aware of water on the ground and concerned about moving around if they are able to even move around very far. we ve been getting the up-to-date forecasts, and that s all made possible because of hunter pilots who are helping to track the storm, putting sensors into the storm. flight director jack parish is in a jet that drops these probes to measure winds and other conditions that are steering the storm. the data goes into the forecast models that make it all possible. i spoke to him just a little bit earlier before we went on air. where are you in relation to the hurricane right now and what are you seeing? anderson, i m in a high altitude jet. we ve been dropping weather
