HONG KONG - Hong Kong police arrested a former senior journalist with the Apple Daily newspaper at the international airport on Sunday (June 27) night on a suspected national security charge as he tried to leave the city, according to media reports.
Fung Wai Kong would be the seventh staffer at the pro-democracy Apple Daily newspaper to be arrested on national security grounds in recent weeks. He was an editor and columnist at the now-closed paper, Hong Kong media reported.

Ein weiterer Journalist der prodemokratischen Zeitung „Apple Daily“ ist Medienberichten zufolge auf dem Flughafen Hongkong festgenommen worden. Es handle sich mit Fung Wai-kong, einem Redakteur und Kolumnisten bei dem inzwischen eingestellten Blatt, um den siebenten Mitarbeiter, der in den vergangenen Wochen aus Gründen der nationalen Sicherheit verhaftet worden sei, berichteten Hongkonger Medien gestern Abend.
Sein ehemaliger Arbeitskollege Jack Hazelwood, schrieb auf Twitter, dass Fung nach London fliegen wollte, und forderte die britischen Behörden zum Einschreiten auf.
Die Hongkonger Polizei sprach von einem 57-jährigen Mann, der wegen „Verschwörung zur Zusammenarbeit mit ausländischen Ländern oder ausländischen Kräften zur Gefährdung der nationalen Sicherheit“ im Flughafen verhaftet worden sei.
