ESSEX COUNTY, NJ A winter storm was expected to continue to impact the Essex County area on Thursday, bringing several inches of snow, ice or freezing rain along with it
(see road impacts, snow estimates and forecast below).
The National Weather Service (NWS) issued winter storm alerts across New Jersey, saying that snow and sleet accumulations could bring anywhere from 3 to 8 inches across the state. More than 1 inch an hour could fall between 6 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Thursday.

The never-ending Nor’easter that dumped two feet of snow across the state was gentle in one regard it left few people without power.
Board of Public Utilities President Joseph L. Fiordaliso said at a press conference Tuesday that there were 5,000 properties that lost service at any one time across the Garden State.
“I think we dodged a bullet,” he said. “We are very, very pleased and gratified that more of our citizens were not without power for any length of time . We certainly don’t want anyone sitting in their home freezing during this type of event.”
