Jack Bearne scores winner as U23s beat Burnley in friendly
Steve Hunter Liverpool U23s returned to winning ways with a 1-0 victory over Burnley in a friendly encounter at the Academy on Friday afternoon.
Jack Bearne netted the only goal of the game inside the opening 10 minutes after fine approach play from Ben Woodburn. Burnley gave us a tough game, to be fair to them, and it was a great test for the boys, U23s boss Barry Lewtas told Liverpoolfc.com. They were tough and direct but we did well, and the boys knew we had been in a game when they came off the field.

Glenn Price Liverpool U23s played out an entertaining 1-1 draw with Everton in Premier League 2 on Monday evening.
The young Reds went a goal down extremely early in the contest after Rhys Hughes opener at Southport FC s Haig Avenue.
But they drew level in the 35th minute through a brilliant finish from Tyler Morton and then had opportunities to claim all the three points.
Everton were reduced to 10 men late on but Barry Lewtas side were unable to capitalise on the advantage and find a winner.
In wet conditions, the Reds fell behind within a minute of the referee s whistle. An Everton move down the left resulted in Hughes side-footing into the bottom corner from the edge of the penalty area.

The young Reds fought back three times at the Academy as they were then beaten by Jack Clarke s long-range winner deep into stoppage time at Kirkby.
Owen Beck recorded a hat-trick of assists – setting up goals for Liam Millar, Tyler Morton and Jack Bearne – but it wasn’t enough for Barry Lewtas’ side.
Spurs had taken the lead in the contest after two minutes through Jubril Okedina before Millar netted an equaliser in the 10th minute.

Sam Williams Liverpool U23s slipped to a 2-1 defeat by Blackburn Rovers at the Academy on Saturday.
Sepp van den Berg’s early opener set the young Reds on course to go top of Premier League 2, but Rovers staged a comeback and claimed the win courtesy of Brad Lyons’ quickfire double midway through the second half.
Barry Lewtas’ team controlled the first 45 minutes and were left to rue their failure to add to Van den Berg’s goal as Blackburn responded assertively after the break to pick up a victory that sees them take first place in the table.
