Douglas County court sentences teen for deadly Westroads Mall shooting

A 16-year-old shot four times inside Westroads Mall after a verbal confrontation in April, at one point standing over a wounded 21-year-old man who later died, an Omaha police detective testified.   Makhi Woolridge-Jones, of Omaha, will stand trial on first-degree murder, first-degree assault and two firearms charges, a judge ruled Wednesday.  M. Woolridge-Jones Authorities have said the April 17 shooting, which caused panicked shoppers to flee, was gang-related. Woolridge-Jones is accused of fatally shooting Trequez Swift and injuring 22-year-old Ja Keya Veland after a confrontation just before noon at the Auntie Anne s pretzel stand on the first floor of the mall.

Omaha police arrest brothers in connection with fatal shooting at Westroads Mall

Omaha police have arrested two brothers in connection with Saturday s fatal shooting at the Westroads Mall. B. Woolridge-Jones Makhi Woolridge-Jones, 16, and Brandon Woolridge-Jones, 18, both of Omaha, have been arrested in connection with the death of Trequez Swift, 21, Deputy Chief Ken Kanger said Sunday. The two are identified as brothers in a petition for a protection order filed by their mother in Douglas County Court.  The younger brother has been charged with first-degree murder in an arrest warrant. Brandon Woolridge-Jones, 18, was arrested on suspicion of being being an accessory to a felony. Reached by telephone Sunday, the mother of the two brothers declined to comment.
