A federal judge in California has dismissed the claims of a construction worker s wife who said she contracted COVID-19 after her husband was exposed to the novel coronavirus at work.
Corby Kuciemba filed a lawsuit against her husband s employer, Victory Woodworks, alleging that Victory knew that another employee had tested positive for COVID-19 but instead of requiring him or her to quarantine, assigned the employee to work with her husband on a San Francisco jobsite. Kuciemba sought damages in excess of $75,000 for medical expenses for at least one hospital stay, lost wages, lost earning capacity, pain and suffering, loss of enjoyment of life and emotional distress.

PFA Passes House. On April 15, 2021, the U.S. House of Representative passed the Paycheck Fairness Act by a vote of 217–210 (one Republican voted “yea”). The bill will face an uphill climb in the U.S. Senate due to the legislative filibuster.
Workplace Violence Bill Passes House. On April 16, 2021, the Workplace Violence Prevention for Health Care and Social Service Workers Act passed the House by a vote of 254–166 (38 Republicans voted “yea”).

Democrats are moving forward, however, and this week they began advancing their economic package using “budget reconciliation,” a parliamentary process that avoids a filibuster and requires only 51 votes in the U.S. Senate to pass a measure. (Budget reconciliation could nevertheless prove a lengthy ordeal requiring modification of the legislation.) Republicans are still hoping that they can have some input in the process, and 10 Republican senators met with President Joe Biden at the White House this week to discuss a compromise proposal that they had drafted. It appears that there is still a ways to go on this matter.
