David Perdue was concerned about federal legislation that would change tax laws to benefit middle-class families. He supported the bill but wanted the Treasury Department to tweak it. Perdue, facing a runoff election on Jan. 5 to retain his seat in Congress, inserted a clause exempting owners of sports teams from having to pay taxes on their profits. An odd request that would only benefit a small number of wealthy American business owners.
