After releasing his second studio album,
TYRON, earlier this year, slowthai has announced a one-day festival in his hometown of Northampton, featuring the likes of Shygirl, Pa Salieu, and IDLES.
With the tagline “no smile, no entry”, Happyland – the Happiest Place in the Universe will take place on September 25 at Northampton Cricket Ground. “Happyland with happy folk. The place where we can laugh and joke. The place you can be yourself without judgment, expectations, and impressions of someone else,” said slowthai.
“The space from the shackles of the everyday. The mountain where we climb to run away. Imagine what you’ve never had when you come to Happyland – you will never be sad,” he added.

As yet unable to have toured his recent album Tyron, Happyland will give fans the chance to see him live this year when he takes up the headline slot on the day.
The incredible run of artists playing alongside slowthai range from women slaying in their own lane –
Greentea Peng, Shygirl and beabadoobee - to like-minded punk cohorts Idles, laid-back Leicester five-piece Easy Life and local boy Izzie Gibbs.

It is a well-known fact that London is the birthplace of grime and UK drill. For years London artists have served as the gatekeepers of the scene and the main beneficiaries of the music industry and all it has to offer – money included.
But more recently we’ve seen a changing of the tide. Over the last five years we’ve seen the likes of Manchester’s Bugzy Malone and Aitch, Northampton’s Slowthai, Nottingham’s Young T & Bugsey and Coventry’s Pa Salieu all achieve monumental success, both in the UK and overseas and that’s only a few examples.
