The Uncovering: Women s Invisible Labour in the Cape online symposium event forms part of a larger project entitled Under Cover of Darkness (undercoverofdarkness.co.za) whose first iteration as an exhibition is currently on show at the Iziko Slave Lodge. This symposium event is supported by the Centre for Curating the Archive (UCT), Iziko Museums of South Africa and Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.
Uncovering: Women s Invisible Labour in the Cape is planned to coincide with the observation of Human Rights Day (Monday, 22 March 2021). The programme considers the historical trajectories of women’s labour in the Cape from the colonial period to the contemporary moment, and forms part of the Under Cover of Darkness project first initiated in 2018 (www.undercoverofdarkness.co.za).
