San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg has won re-election. Nirenberg defeated 13 other candidates, including his closest opponent, Greg Brockhouse who narrowly lost to Nirenberg in 2019.
Nirenberg picked up more than 60% of the votes. He was first elected mayor defeating incumbent mayor Ivy Taylor in a runoff for the 2017 mayoral race. Prior to the election, Nirenberg served as a member of the San Antonio City Council for District 8 for two terms.

No district is more in need of consistent, stable and visionary leadership than District 2, which is on the city’s East Side.
We haven’t seen such leadership since Ivy Taylor ascended to mayor in 2014. Since then, there have been many elected and appointed council members in the district.
This year’s race, in many ways, embodies this inconsistency and turbulence. The incumbent, Jada Andrews-Sullivan, faces 11 challengers. A consistent concern from these challengers is a lack of responsiveness and, in turn, community concerns left unaddressed. Many said they had to go outside the district to other council members with their concerns. Some readers may also remember how Andrews-Sullivan’s tenure on council got off to a rocky start with concerns about unpaid campaign bills.
