The Apapa Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has intercepted a 20 feet container with registration number CSLU 2362640 falsely declared as furniture components and processed for export.
Customs Area Controller, Apapa Command, Mohammed Abba-Kura, in a press briefing on Tuesday told journalists that the vessel was found to contain certain parts of wildlife prohibited for export.
Abba-Kura said 162 sacks of pangolin scales weighing 8,800 kg; 57 sacks of mixed endangered species of various sizes such as Ivory/animal horns, lion bones amongst others were discovered when it was subjected to 100 physical examination
The customs boss who revealed that the container was destined for Haiphong, Vietnam added that the total value of the export was valued at N952m with the total weight of the items put at 854,719 tonnes.
