generation. he looks like the thing in the the thing in the picture frame, if it said vice president. the guy with the gray hair and as you said the deep voice. and he is very smart. and i think mike pence is going to play a critical role in this administration. but i bet you donald trump does not let it be called pencecare, he is going to want it to be trump care. he will simply repeal obamacare and get rid of it and call it trump care. he may just be wanting to shed the name obama from it but my line was, last night or the night before i think i said donald trump plans to get rid of obamacare with something that looks a lot like obamacare, except it will be called trump care. it s rebranding. well for donald trump it may be, but for republicans that is not what they mean when they say
for me i can t speak and i ll agree and if i don t, i won t. big issues such as health care or the affordable care act if the republicans start to appeal it some democrats say game over. all bets are off. then we ll tell you about how big it s going to be and what the rooms will look like. let s see what the replacement looks like and there s plenty of flaws in the affordable care act that could be fixed. let s fix them. call it trump care. i don t care what you call it but let s provide health insurance to people but don t start with repeal. how about king care? that has a nice ring to it.
and people aren t really as excited about repealing it without a clear replacement in mind as some of the republicans are. so the idea is what if we just kind of renamed it trump care, added a couple of amendments to maybe make it cheaper for people and sort of went on with our lives instead of just scrapping it and trying to come up with something new, which republicans haven t really coalesced around a clear replacement plan. so that s sort of the idea behind that. and the question is, you know, would people like obamacare better if it was just called something else. most republicans on that note want to keep the more popular parts of the law in place, like coverage for people with pre-existing conditions and so forth. what do you think the replacement will include? much of the same? since you re talking about branding, just in a new package? no. i think the replacements they re talking about would be pretty different. insurers would haven t to provide the same kinds of benefits
they huddle behind closed doors the week after inauguration week for a retreat from the house and senate republicans. we ll see if they are able to decide on at least some principles to agree on because right now the party is not yet settled on what exactly to replace the law with. fascinating. manu raju on capitol hill. thank you very much. one democrat is reaching out a hand to the republicans as they try to change the health care law. west virginia senator is saying he is willing to help republican fix obamacare. he joins me now. senator, thanks as always for joining us. we appreciate t. good to be with you, jake. senator, president obama has said that democrats, you, should make republicans own this. call it trump care, don t have anything to do with it. you disagree. i disagree with both sides wanting to play politics. the republican side saying we have to repeal because it s a political promise they made. and if my side, the democrats
lisa, saying, once they do this, it is they are his. and they will call it trump care. it will be like holding the old maid and that card game. and you are the one who has got it. sure. republicans are looking at the 2010 election. i think it cost democrats 5.8 percentage points, at the polls. you re looking at the democrats have voted for it. only 27 met are still left in the senate. of course, they are looking at that from a political lens. to bill s point, it was a president-elect trump to try to drive for the process. right now, republicans lack of right now, republicans lack of . . . alking about something that is very common gator. very, very complex. 2700 page bill with tens of thousands regulations and rules, a law that redirects one fifth of the united states economy and a law that has been in place since 2010. as eboni pointed out, some of it is very, very big. we are looking at something that is very complex. i think that is the reason why republicans are having a difficul
