Every year, people from all over the world arrive in Alaska to escape conflict at home. Many of them have language barriers, and need assistance to find housing and jobs to build a new life.
Refugees fleeing the war in Ukraine will begin arriving in Alaska over the next year or two. And the state’s refugee coordinator has begun notifying local-government officials that some of them will be placed in communities where they’ve got family ties. Meanwhile, members of the Slavic community in Delta Junction say a few have already arrived.
