Tehran has been threatening to retaliate for a deadly air strike on an iranian diplomatic compound in syria. At six oclock in the morning we will update the directive again, starting tonight and in the coming days no educational activities including overnight stays in parking lots and excursions are allowed. In the last few minutes the israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, has said his country is prepared for a direct attack from iran. In an an address to the nation, he said Defence Systems were deployed and the armed forces were ready to respond in kind. Hes advised israelis to
consider the terms of a temporary truce. what could be an imminent deal to release dozens of hostages. a senior u.s. official and source familiar with the talks in the region tell nbc that would include hamas freeing around 50 women and children in change for 150 palestinian prisoners being held by israel. in addition, fighting would be paused for several days to allow for fuel and other aid to get in. president biden sounding optimist, saying it s looking good to bring the hostages home and we expect this deal to dominate at a pentagon press briefing that is scheduled to start any minute now. our nbc news reporters are following all of the latest developments. we begin with raf sanchez who reports from tel aviv. what more to we know about what this deal entails? whether israel is going to go along with it? do we know which meeting netanyahu is in right now? reporter: so, chris, he is still in this meeting with the full cabinet. it has been going on for an hour. we think it
israeli air space, which is to say the syrian forces are trying to take back one of the last areas of syrian forces they do not control. and it s during these operations that they say that syrian fighter jet entered about a mile into israeli air space. that s when israeli s missile defense system fired off two patriot missiles. the airplane, the aircraft, that is, at that point, had flown back into syria and it was shot down over territory held by an isis affiliate in southern syria. israel says it does not know what happened to the pilot or pilots of that aircraft. that remains one of the biggest questions of where did they go down or were they able to eject. israel says it used deconfliction measures, which is to say israel was in touch with the russians, which were backing the syrian forces at that point. israel wanted to make sure the jet they were shooting down is not a russian jet, and that it was, in fact, syrian, and it was nose deconfliction measures they used to confirm that
