地元住民が見守る中、重機で海へ戻される「くじらの大ちゃん」=ひたちなか市平磯町の平磯海水浴場
同海水浴場のシンボルは全長約15メートル、高さ約2.3メートル、重さ約5トンの強化プラスチック製。昨年は市内全ての海水浴場が開設されず、大ちゃん目当ての客が来る恐れがあるとして昨年7月14日に陸上に引き上げていた。
この日は住民が見守る中、1時間半ほどかけて業者が重機で大ちゃんをつり上げ、約80メートル沖合の定位置に固定した。
「自分の子どものようなもの」と大ちゃんを愛する磯崎さん。昨年は子どもたちから「何で陸にいるの?」と言われ、つらかったと振り返る。
磯崎さんは「感染対策に注意しながら、大ちゃんのいる海水浴場で楽しく遊んでほしい」と期待した。
