you feel about a student loan consolidation? is it a good idea? we have over $100,000 in student debt together. oh, man! it doesn t hurt anything to consolidate it. it doesn t make it go away. it piles in one pile instead of six piles. it might get you a better interest rate. the interest rate isn t the problem, it s $100,000. you ll be on beans and rice, rice and beans for a while cleaning that mess up. maybe they should have had some jobs going forward before you accrued all that. meanwhile, from south dakota and marsha, marsha, marsha, i have co-signed one of my children s student loans. i am a single parent and couldn t afford to pay for their school. that particular child is now sticking me with these loans. am i stuck with these until i pay them off? that is a great and scary question. well, obviously, when you co-sign a loan, it means you ve signed the loan with someone else. you re stuck with them. you re stuck with them and so
that s why we tell people to never co-sign and if a single parent is looking at a child going to school because they can t afford, they need to look into scholarships and pell grants and decisions on where they go to school. choose a cheaper school so you don t get in these kinds of messes. never co-sign a loan. you always end up paying it. ok and john from ohio has this question. my wife and i have two student loans. my wife doesn t want to pay my loan first because she recently saw a movie where a husband paid off his debt first and left the wife with the remaining debt! movie. my principal balance and interest rate is more than hers. is she crazy? should they pay both loans off together? i like this question. how are you going to answer this? i m not sure i know if your wife is crazy or not. that s another program. whole another day. the situation is there s probably some things going on in the marriage here and if the marriage is unstable to the point that a movie mak
tonight on justice. hello and welcome to justice. i m judge jeanine pirro. president obama on the offensive in the wake of attacks on his administration s handling of the gas crisis. here to talk about it is the host of huckabee on the fox news channel governor mike huckabee. good evening, governor. great to see you, judge. judge jeanine: great to see you. the president talked about the fact that the oil companies are making more money than ever as if we didn t know that but we are still giving them $4 billion a year in subsidies. let s take a listen. in the next few weeks i expect congress to vote on ending the subsidies and we will put every single member of congress on record to either stand up for the oil companies for stand up for the american people. judge jeanine: you know, i can t imagine that any one is going to be against that but isn t the problem bigger than just the subsidies.
the issue we re hearing from oil traders is most of iran s supply heeds to asia and not to europe. jon: isn t the problem refinery capacity? that s what s been boosting the price of oil or gasolin especially in the northeast. releasing more oil isn t going to help much if you can t refine it. reporter: that s right, jon. the letter writers say george h. w in 91. and george w bush in 2005 after hurricane katrina gas prices rose after hurricane karina to $2.98. after a year they were pitting $2.93 after hurricane katrina hit. treasury secretary timothy geithner out recently saying there could be a case made to drawdown on the spr in some circumstances, but he s saying, no, no short term fixes needed just yet. even the international energy
exploded in cost, and that s why you see republicans justifiably saying, don t even try revenues. that isn t the problem. revenues will come up to historic levels as soon as the economy starts growing again. some expenditures will come down if the economy starts growing again, but there is a structural deficit that is a spending deficit, not a tax deficit. and if we don t address that spending listening to rick santorum out of new hampshire talking about an economic crisis. interesting enough we had heard from the secretary of defense leon panetta saying that we are at a crisis point talking about the economy. we re going to have more on the horse race out of new hampshire. the republicans who would like to replace president obama, what their ideas are about the economy and what they are now calling an economic crisis. going to take a quick break.
