the public sector cut 95,000 jobs. this is the first time we ve seen the public cut and the private add more jobs which puts the whoeld maxim of job security for government workers out the window. martha: it raises a lot of questions when you look at the state governments across the country. soothing i want to put a spotlight on as well is when you look across the country and see what was happening in terms of job growth and where the money was being put, it was used in the stimulus package to plug the budget gap. reporter: yes. martha: not to create new jobs. we can t pay our pensions, we can t pay this, that. it went to that not to create new jobs. reporter: it was supposed to go to shovel-redding projects. those construction workers that were hoping were going to get a new job come 2010. that hasn t happened. now the state s teachers, firemen and cops all good taxpayers are threatened to lose their jobs going forward. with 46 of 50 pension plans
governor brewer is not the only one with a big reaction. what are the folks saying in the grand canyon state. reporter: yes strong reaction coming in. the state had been expecting this lawsuit for weeks. as you heard from the governor and other state officials they are very upset. they are up in arms that the federal government would sue them over this law. we are hearing more most of the most colorful comments from arizona s sheriff joe arpaio. he says this suit does nothing to help but will hurt the state. why isn t the federal government asking us for our help instead of suing, suing law enforcement and the state of arizona? reporter: and sheriff joe went onto say he hopes the law goes into effect so he and his deputies can enforce immigration laws. and he also added he s not going
