i m sorry to jump in, but what s killing me on this as well is this continued through 2020. this isn t 2010 even. this isn t the olden days. this is a conduct and behavior that was the governor s sexually harassed multiple women they document. at least from 2013 through 2020. which is why you have to admire the strength, courage, and bravery of the women to come forward exactly what you re saying. even in 2020, the power dynamic is so stacked against them in that way. yeah. can i make one point on that, if you don t mind. to that point, from what we heard from charlotte bennett, and this was highlighted by june kim who was talking about some of her text messages and the message that they sent to what both you re saying about the power dynamic which she has talked about repeatedly. in one of her text messages she said she feared what would happen if she rejected the governor so, quote, i disappeared instead. and he specifically referenced
party in pausch, the president. many voters will want to check this. this isn t 2010. when i ran, the democrats had full control, and a number of us said we were going to be a check and a balance to president obama and nancy pelosi and harry read. a lot of voters understood that, that s what the democrats are going to be saying about us, they need to have a better check and balance on the executive branch. i think that s what you saw in southwestern pennsylvania, people wanted to check. even people who may have supported donald trump, you need to keep an eye on him. last night, were you like, glad i m going going to do this again? when i announced i was not running in department. i had no serious threat from the left or no serious threat from the right. i knew it would be a difficult environment. a lot of my republican colleagues were concerned before primaries. your problem in this election is not going to be the enemy behind you, but the enemy in front of
pryor is leading among women. so the turnout would be to sort of focus on women and some of his ads focus on that. you get closer to the campaign, they will be doing that. women voters outperform in that area as well. if he can target women and particularly continue to bring up the record of cotton, then you ll be able to turn out women. this isn t 2010. 2010 the recession was still there, the economy wasn t as good as now and voters were throwing them all out. secondly, we talk about the affordable care act and how cotton is repeating it. it s a little more complicated in arkansas. they expanded medicaid through a private option essentially. and when you talk about repeal, you talk about taking 150,000 people and just denying them medicaid coverage. and i think what we have seen in the last week is cotton has
i tell you, our own reporting indicated jolly didn t run the best of campaigns. are you guys going to be able to make up? kiss and make up, and did you guys have to basically take over things because jolly couldn t do it? chuck, we had a great team on the ground with the jolly team working together to eke out a very strong win. you called them a keystone cops operation, someone in your staff. somebody in your staff did. chuck, let s not litigate the past, let s talk about election day. that s the subject, isn t it? i understand that. steve israel and the dccc said they had to win this thing. they are now spinning this is somehow a republican-plus 18 district or something. come on. what needs analysis is in the end, republicans won a very crossover district where barack obama had won twice. we have a great team, a great partnership with david jolly.
you know, this is a special election. this is not, you know, a big election in a regular year. this isn t even a midterm. this was a march special election in a midterm election. so the fact of the matter is we started out 13 points behind in an off-year election, where republican voters are the most animated, and we got it to within two. i m a mets fan. i never want to lose by two, and i m sorry that we lost. it was disappointing. but the fact of the matter is we got it from 13 points behind to two points behind, and that makes us feel good about the prospects for this district and other districts in november. the final point on this, chuck, is this. this is, again, r-plus 13 district, not a single district in america up for grabs that is r-plus 13. so it s a much more competitive playing field in the on year. i would make a mets joke, but one of my bosses is a big mets fan, too. oh. so i would just be hearing about it all day anyway.
