that s the part i don t understand how it makes any sense. it doesn t make any sense, dana. it doesn t make any sense for two reasons. one, you have the obvious violent crime of which there seems to be strong evidence. a mental health issue and maybe an intent issue. did he do it does not seem to be one of the big issues in the case. and the other thing is if he has got problems like this, when you post bail for someone you are supposed to be basically saying i am assuring the court that this person will show up for his future court appearances. so you have a danger to the community situation, you have a potential risk of flight situation. it is a textbook case for pre-trial detention and a situation where if somebody has mental health needs that need to be addressed they can be addressed. but the idea that somebody like this regardless of who was putting up bail for him would be let out under these circumstances is shocking.
