being named individual one in sdny for the criminal campaign finance case that sent michael cohen to jail. you can choose a future where the president s corrupt and unqualified son-in-law and daughter don t run the country. do you think there s any enthusiasm behind passing nepotism laws or curbs to a president s power? thanks for that question. this is something we wanted to make clear throughout the series. reforming and restraining future presidents ought to be a bipartisan cause. this isn t a partisan issue. corruption doesn t know a single party. the next trump might be a democrat. obviously, the two parties aren t equal, and there s an asymmetry in which one actually wants to abandon democracy and that s the republican party, so it s likely that the next tyrant will be a republican, but you know, it s very possible that a corrupt president be a democrat, so republicans ought to be very
volunteer to help them, where your expertise rise? helping democrats is helping the country. this isn t a partisan issue. that s what i get so angry about. we had individuals that sieged the capitol based clearly on fantasy. i apologize the connection isn t that great. we have all storms moving through. if you heard thunder, it s not me. this is not partisan at all. barbara is so right on this. this is about facts and data, about going after the individuals that are responsible for this. i don t see it as democrats reaches owl to me. i see it as americans reaching out, and i hope i can use my 20 years of experience and maybe rely on some of barbara s experience to get through this. barbara, would you volunteer your time to help a committee investigation? well, listen, it s pretty easy to send those subpoenas. the records are there. we models the subpoena requests we did on congressman debbie
except a lot went wrong this november in north hampton county in eastern pennsylvania. in some cases voters cast their ballots on touch screens that registered the wrong candidates. in others it was for the wrong party or no vote at all. there were so many voters disenfranchised here in one county in pennsylvania and i feel that s extremely unbelievable. reporter: county officials scrambled to hold a recount with the back up paper ballots made by the machines. by the next morning they announced the official winners but the damage was done. in the immediate aftermath two unlikely allies came together. north hampton s democratic party chair and the republican chair. this isn t a partisan issue, though, right? this is just a matter of fairness in elections, right? not at all. i never talked to lee before a couple of weeks ago, but after the election we were unified in that we have to have complete trust in the voting system.
and we ve got to deal with that problem. one, we really got to deal with the strict voter laws that are in this state. secondly, we ve got to challenge these acts of voter purge voter purging. that s why i m so happy that fair fight georgia is actually taken this and has taken this to court. it s because of their work and for their intervention that ultimately the judge has a has a hearing today around the prevention of 120,000 voters that are going to be purged that were scheduled to be purged tonight. so i think there is a couple things we really have to do. you know, i think the biggest threat to democracy is really voter suppression. this isn t a partisan issue. this is a democracy issue. it s also a voter apathy issue, in addition to voter suppression. and voter suppression s a big deal. but also, getting people interested and feeling like they have a say in it. and part of that is is having a polling place that is close by. part of that is saying, hey listen, it s easy fo
china. what surprise youd the most when putting this together? how seriously people who are nonpartisan and just elected government not elected. how people who are government officials unelected government officials, nonpartisan, how seriously concerned they are about what president trump is doing to the very notion of imperical truth. elected officials respond to the public and respond to their constituents, their party here and there. but people who are just their job is to focus on, for example, how does the public receive weather information? what do you hope people will walk away with when they watch tonight? the idea that there is a degree to which this president has undermined empirical fact and truth in the minds of the public like we ve never seen before. that this isn t a partisan issue. this has to do with just the idea of truth being important. and i hope that people who don t
