Two leaders of Tunisia s Islamo-conservative Ennahdha party, the bête noire of President Kais Saied, were arrested on Tuesday evening, nearly five months after the arrest of the movement s historic leader Rached Ghannouchi, the party said.
Mr. Ben Mbarek, 55, is the most prominent opponent to be arrested as part of a campaign of arrests launched in early February in political and business circles, unprecedented since President Saied cornered the powers in July 2021.
The arrests come as part of a crackdown launched this weekend by the Tunisian security services in which political activists, former judges, and an influential businessman were arrested.
