GEORGE TOWN, May 10 Penang has allowed the tarawih and Aidilfitri prayers to be performed in areas placed under the movement control order (MCO) and conditional movement control order (CMCO), based on mosques and surau capacity, effective today. Penang Islamic Religious Affairs Department (JHEAIPP) director Mohd Zakuan Zakaria said apart from that, all religious activities including Friday prayers were also allowed in mosques and surau in the MCO and CMCO areas.

Bernama ALOR SETAR: Special Ramadan activities are allowed to be held in mosques and suraus in five districts in Kedah that are placed under the Movement Control Order (MCO), including those in the red zone, effective today. Kedah Islamic Religious Affairs Department (JHEAIK) director Mohd Yusri Md Daud said this followed the relaxation of the standard operating procedure (SOP) on the MCO by the National Security Council (MKN). “Special activities during the month of Ramadan in all zones (in districts subject to MCO) are allowed with a specific time limit. All mosques and suraus must be closed after completion of the Friday, obligatory and Tarawih prayers.

ALOR SETAR, Jan 20 Only 50 worshippers, apart from mosque and surau officials and committee members, are allowed to perform Friday prayers in Kedah during the movement control order (MCO) period. Kedah Islamic Religious Affairs Department director Mohd Yusri Md Daud said only five mosques or surau committee members were allowed to perform the daily obligatory prayers in a congregation. ‘’The mosque and surau committees are responsible for picking suitable methods to select the worshippers and managing them to ensure the smooth process of Friday and obligatory prayers at mosques or surau,” he said in a statement here today.

Selangor Islamic Religious Affairs Department (JAIS) director Datuk Mohd Shahzihan Ahmad said Friday prayers will be replaced with Zohor prayers at home during the period. However, he said for mosques and surau that have been permitted to hold prayers, only five officials are allowed for each session. He added that marriage solemnisations will be conducted through video conferencing only, and is permitted only for couples who have obtained approval to get married and the date of the marriage set by the District Islamic Religious Office or mosques concerned.
