being bombed at the moment, but the battle is by no means over. in fact, last night i was with some senior democratic force officials when this statement came out that president trump said that 100% of isis territory had been regained and they met it with a good deal of consternation, saying, no, the battle is not over and they thought he s being rather premature at this point given that there still may be many more casualties among their men as this battle goes forward. they don t know how long it s going to take. they know that some of the most experienced and battle hardened isis fighters are still inside that very small pocket of territory. the officials say that there are no civilians left inside, although we did speak to one of the soldiers who was there when
tents. there are 40,000 people there. and in this large camp, there is a section for isis family members, the wives, the children of people who were married to isis fighters and their children. and it is a closed facility, the people inside can t leave. this is just for foreigners. there were 50 all 1,600 people in this facility are from 48 different countries. we went to the tent where hoda muthana was staying. initially she didn t want to talk to us, eventually she agreed. we sat down with her and asked her not just about her legal disputes with the government. her father has now filed a suit in order to get her passport back so that she can go to the united states to face trial. we also asked her why did she come here, why did she go to isis territory, and why was her
european women, whose home countries are trying to figure out will they be allowed to come back and if so, on what terms. frankly it is very unclear. how will the u.s. government decide? what do they consider, richard, when they re trying to determine whether to allow this woman to come back to the united states? so first they have to determine who she is. a lot of the isis families, isis brides, let alone the children who were born in isis territory, don t have documents. they either gave them up, they were taken from them, they got lost, they destroyed them deliberately in a sign of loyalty. as a matter of policy, the u.s. has said that it will repatriate its citizens. but will they be charged with conspiring to help a foreign terrorist organization? will they face any charges at all? will the claim of brainwashing be enough to convince a judge, convince a jury, convince anyone who might want to raise charges?
