the facebook ad products are differentiated primarily by the fact that facebook is so knowledgeable about people. and we just try to kind of run that loop over and over again, getting smarter as we go. a loop where they get smarter. why do they seem to still struggle not only with combatting this, which you and i have discussed before. there are difficult parts to it, not to scapegoat, but they seem to struggle with even having a civic dialogue about this at a point where america is obviously concerned about this. well, as we know, 150 million americans may have been exposed to russian created propaganda for this election. through exposure through facebook and other platforms. you wouldn t have them say this exact same statement if we were talking two years ago about isis media. and isis posting, which were out there. i wrote a whole book on isis
blocked from entering the u.s. because of their suspected terror ties. spain is part of the visa waiver program. almost immediately, isis social media accounts celebrated the attack in barcelona. these accounts are known in counterterrorism circles as fan boys, not to leadership accounts. but not long after the news agency, the mouthpiece for isis claimed responsibility. but not clear whether the individuals were inspired by isis, directed by isis, or simply opportunistic. spain, as you mention, has not been traditionally part of the isis online conversation. in july, and isis affiliated telegram account mention barcelona specifically. our contact says that it was flagged to law enforcement, as you also mention, the barcelona newspaper reporting that the cia warned the spanish counterparts in recent months about isis targeting the city. and specifically the area which is very much like times square in new york. or the shop to lizzie in paris
about this 24-minute clip that was released on isis social media accounts by baghdadi. one of the things he said was interesting to me, he mocks the u.s.-led coalition and says western countries wouldn t dare send ground troops to isis strongholds because of previous failures in iraq and afghanistan. we have heard from analysts that isis wants u.s. ground troops in there and they want to face them. do you think he is taunting the u.s.? oh, absolutely. and we don t know when this tape was made, if it was recent or long ago. he does not make mention of some of the things that have occurred in the last several weeks, the bombing of the russian jetliner out of egypt, some of the attacks in other places. but, yes, he is certainly attempting to convincing western forces to come in. he wants them there and he wants to prove this is east versus west and christianity versus islam. truthfully the strategy so far has been counter to that, striking them from the air and
of what michael weiss was saying earlier, that there have been introductions in term of the social network sites and social media to encourage individuals to act and to make the streets of paris run with blood. this is something that has been out on isis social media to make people very concerned about what might be sort of in the works. but i do think it s important that we hold off on prejudgment because there s been so much misinformation disseminated. and if these gentlemen who had suicide vests available to them and didn t use them. to me that tells me they didn t want to be suicide bombers. like in the mumbai attack, you had guys with suicide vests and they had a plan to go to multiple locations and exact as many casualties as they could. philip mudd, what do you make
