CLEMSON, S.C. – The No. 1 Clemson men’s soccer team suffered its first loss of the season on Friday night against No. 16 Syracuse (6-0-1, 2-0 ACC) by a final score of 2-1. After scoring the game’s first goal, the Tigers (6-1-0, 1-1 ACC), playing without starters Ousmane Sylla, Derek Waleffe, and Hamady Diop conceded twice and were unable to bounce back. The Tigers opened up the scoring in the eighth minute when Shawn Smart made a beautiful overlapping run and received the ball on the right-hand side of the attacking third. He played a perfectly weighted cross to the right foot of Isaiah Reid who one-timed it into the top of the net for his third goal this season. In the 15th minute, a defensive miscue in front of the net led to a Syracuse equalizer. The two top-20 teams traded opportunities for the remainder of the half, but neither squad was able to break through. CLEMSON, S.C. – The top-ranked Clemson men’s soccer team put on a brilliant display at Historic Riggs Field on Tuesday night, handling UNC Asheville by a final score of 4-0 to advance to 4-0-0 on the season. Ousmane Sylla and Mohamed Seye each continued their marvelous 2022 campaigns with four points apiece on the evening. The first of the Tigers’ four goals came from freshman Nathan Richmond, who was making his first career start. Seye sprung him in alone on the keeper and he calmly slotted the ball into the back of the net before pulling off a backflip to celebrate his first collegiate goal. Seye earned his second assist of the evening when he laid the ball off to Sylla, who took a touch to his right and struck the ball across his body to double Clemson’s lead. Just two minutes later, Seye himself would get on the scoreboard off an assist from Sylla that he blasted into the top of the net with his left foot. CLEMSON, S.C. – The top-ranked Clemson men’s soccer team advanced to 2-0-0 on Monday night in a 2-0 victory over USC Upstate. Tim Strobeck and Isaiah Reid tallied their first goals of the season, while freshman goalkeeper Joseph Andema earned a clean sheet in his first career start. Clemson opened the scoring when Ousmane Sylla beat his defender along the goal line, cut inside and found a wide open Ströbeck. The Swedish sophomore calmly took a touch and struck a perfect shot into the top left corner to put the Tigers up in the 15th minute. The first half concluded without many chances to note, but the Tigers added the pressure in the second frame. Sylla continued to dominate on the ball, creating opportunities on several occasions that nearly resulted in goals. However, it wasn’t until the 70th minute that Joey Skinner broke free inside the box and found Isaiah Reid for a tap-in goal that put the game firmly out of reach. The 2021 National Champion men’s soccer team is primed to defend its title, and as the team turns the page to 2022 there are plenty of new faces ready to write their own story, as well as key returners set to add chapters to theirs. CLEMSON, S.C. Clemson United was voted the unanimous No. 1 team in the nation in the United Soccer Coaches preseason poll. The Tigers earned all eight first place votes following their 2021 National Championship winning season.
