Gunmen who kidnapped a group of children working on a farm in Katsina state, northwest Nigeria, have released the captives, according to the police.
On Sunday, last week, dozens of motorcycle-riding gunmen kidnapped kids who were picking crops on a field outside Mairuwa village in the Faskari region for pay, according to reports from the police and a local authority.
The number of children taken captive by the criminal group who had previously been claimed to have kidnapped 39 of them was down to 21 on Sunday, according to authorities.
Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force in President Muhammadu Buhari's home state, Katsina on Friday arrested a suspected informant to bandits who disguised as a woman. The suspect, whose names had yet to be ascertained, was arrested at the Katsina State Transport Authority (KSTA) station in Jibia Local Government Area. When contacted, the Katsina State Police Public Relations Officer, Isah Gambo confirmed the arrest but said he doesn't have the full details. "Yes, it is true. I heard about it but I don't have the details," the police spokesperson said.
