West Orange High theater gears up for 'Freaky Friday' | West Orange Times & Observer | West Orange Times & Windermere Observer

Share West Orange High theater students are thrilled to be back on stage this weekend for their production of the musical ‘Freaky Friday.’ Imagine being a teenage girl in those formative years, juggling the task of testing out your newfound independence with simultaneously feeling misunderstood by your nagging mother. Now, imagine a life-changing moment happens, and you and your mother suddenly switch bodies and get a taste of each other’s lives. That’s the premise of “Freaky Friday,” originally based on a 1972 novel by Mary Rodgers. It’s also the next show West Orange High theater students are gearing up to bring to life April 28 to May 2.

Three plays highlight weekend entertainment

The musical “Tick, Tick… Boom!” finishes its run on Sunday at the Historic State Theatre in Eustis. “Goodnight Gracie” by the Tavares Theater Company has added two final shows this weekend. Exes and a wedding is the formula for laughs in the comedy “One Slight Hitch” by the IceHouse Players in Mount Dora. Written by the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning author of “Rent,” Jonathan Larson, it’s a semi-autobiographical story is based on an aspiring composer in New York City who is worried he made the wrong career choice.

Here’s the weekend roundup. “One Slight Hitch” The IceHouse Theatre in Mount Dora kicks off the new year with the comedy “One Slight Hitch” opening Friday and playing until Feb. 7. The story is set in the summer of 1981, at the suburban Cincinnati home of Doc and Delia Coleman. It s Courtney s wedding day, and her mother, Delia, is making sure that everything is perfect. The bride’s dress, the flowers, the décor, the food are all perfectly planned to come off without a hitch, that is until the doorbell rings and all heck breaks loose, with the unannounced arrival of Courtney’s ex.
