The Ponaganset School District will switch to virtual learning on Dec. 21, and continue remote classes after the holiday break.
Seven Ponaganset students and two staff members in middle and high school tested positive for COVID-19, Superintendent Michael Barnes said in an email to Foster-Glocester families on Saturday. There were no school-based close contacts since all nine individuals were not in school while infected, according to the letter, saying they have not been in school since before Thanksgiving. Some traveled out of state and were in quarantine, Barnes said.
Captain Isaac Paine Elementary, Ponaganset Middle School, and Ponaganset High School will begin distance learning for three days from Dec. 21-23 and continue one full week of virtual learning after the holiday break, from Jan. 4-8, as a precaution after seeing the increase in positive COVID cases following the Thanksgiving holiday.
