and we saw some of that laid out in this indictment. today and now in this campaign, he is under enormous pressure. he s decided that he is going to navigate it by persuading americans that the system of justice in our country is corrupt, the prosecutors are corrupt, and that the fbi is corrupt. and this is really a moment of peril for our country because he is very good at this. yes. as i mentioned to you earlier, 70% of republicans still believe that the election was stolen because he s told them that. and now, many believe on that side that the system is indeed corrupt. you hear a lot of republican politicians echoing his mean. i m curious what you think from your role, obviously having been in the white house and worked with the former president, obama, as well as biden himself, about mike pence s role in all of this.
the very next day donald trump say this, made a knowingly false statement that in michigan a vote dump came in unexpectedly saying, quote, this, nobody knows anything about it. it is corrupt. detroit is corrupt. on december 7th, the indictment says, despite still having established no fraud in michigan, co-conspirator one, who we know is rudy giuliani, sent a text intended for the michigan senate majority leader saying so i need you to pass a joint resolution for michigan legislature that states that the election is in dispute. ultimately that michigan senate majority leader declined. it is one piece of a large and messy puzzle. we ll get into the co-conspirators jack smith says helped him along the way and the former president s strongest defense now. we want to begin with the reporting and then what happens next. joining me now, ryan reilly, from outside the courthouse in
welcome back to all of you watching us here in the united states, canada and around the world. i m kim brunhuber. this is cnn newsroom. donald trump was back on the campaign trail angrily sounding off about the indictment. appearances in north carolina and georgia, the first public event since the indictment was unsealed on friday. trump tells politico he has no intention to take a plea deal. he vows to stay in the race even if convicted. as for supporters, it doesn t mean anything. i don t trust the fbi. the fbi is corrupt. the department of justice is corrupt in my opinion and they re after trump. he shared classified information from people who were not privy. alleged. alleged. alleged. you re innocent until proven
if you study the lessons of two, impeachments you also understand what donald trump is doing and what he is doing. what he s been doing for weeks and, weeks even before this moment, and he s putting on and he s put it on steroids. tonight he is telling his people, don t listen to this ma am. the fbi is corrupt. a deep state is correct. they are after me again, trying to convince them, don t listen to them. because trump is smart. he is smart, he s cynical. but he s smart. because if when they laid out, if you read of malodorous there s did approve collusion? no. but it say a lot of really bad things about donald trump? yes, it did. but his people don t believe it because he poison the well beforehand and say, do not listen to anything these people. they say. i m not a lawyer jack smith s biggest obstacle to we are never, never land. we have never had and the faraway front runner in the next election indicted on federal charges that are incredibly serious. this is not shop
business associates. meetings in the white house. you have one whistleblower who said he met personally with now president biden to discuss these deals. there is references to president biden getting up to 10% of one deal and getting other benefits. so the problem is that what the president has said stands contradicted. this idea that oh my gosh, how could you suggest the president is corrupt is getting to the point of being insulting. there are millions of dollars that are going to biden family members, including grandchildren, from foreign interests including some associated with foreign intelligence. at some point you insult the intelligence of the american people with these types of dismissive comments. bill: professor, thank you. we ll wait to hear when others get a chance to see that document at f.b.i. headquarters and we ll bring you back. bill: thank you. okay.
