As firefighters from around the Omaha-metro were working to contain a brush fire that had spread near NP Dodge Park on Thursday afternoon, the governor declared an emergency for the state and issued a ban on open burns for the next few days.

Funeral arrangements were being planned Wednesday for a New Jersey fire recruit who died days after he collapsed during a training exercise.

He collapsed last Thursday during a training exercise in the parking lot of the Morris County Public Safety Training Academy in Parsippany Township, officials said. He was treated by EMTs and taken to Morrostiwn Medical Center’s critical care unit.
