The case was transferred to the CB-CID after IAS Amudha, who was appointed by the Tamil Nadu government to investigate the complaints, recommended the move.
The inquiry committee headed by senior IAS officer P. Amudha, to probe into the alleged custodial torture by suspended IPS officer Balveer Singh at Ambasamudram near Tirunelveli, drew flak on Monday. None of the victims, who earlier represented their case of custodial torture before the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) appeared before the officer.
“Media and public pressure alone have led to the few follow-ups in the custodial torture case,” People’s Watch said in response to claims of the accused IPS officer being subjected to a media trial.
The policemen tortured two underage boys for several hours, grated their teeth with stones and produced them before the Juvenile Justice Board in handcuffs.
