Read more about Benchmarks hit day s low; Nifty below 15,500 on Business Standard. The benchmarks indices extended early losses and hit fresh intraday low in morning trade. The Nifty was trading below the 15,500 mark. Metal stocks, however, managed to outperform.
The key equity barometers reversed gains and slipped into the negative terrain in morning trade. The Nifty, however, managed to hold above the 15,550 mark. Metal shares corrected after a three-day wining streak.
At 10:22 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, was down 93.56 points or 0.18% to 51,843.88. The Nifty 50 index lost 26.20 points or 0.17% to 15,556.60.
In broader market, the S&P BSE Mid-Cap index shed 0.33% while the S&P BSE Small-Cap index declined 0.35%.
The market breadth was negative. On the BSE, 1265 shares rose and 1484 shares fell. A total of 114 shares were unchanged.

Among the other constituents of the index, Tata Steel Ltd decreased 1.49% and JSW Steel Ltd lost 1.27% on the day. The S&P BSE Metal index went up 164.09 % over last one year compared to the 56.75% surge in benchmark SENSEX.
Steel Authority of India Ltd has added 3.06% over last one month compared to 4.79% gain in S&P BSE Metal index and 7.01% rise in the SENSEX. On the BSE, 10.25 lakh shares were traded in the counter so far compared with average daily volumes of 67.15 lakh shares in the past one month. The stock hit a record high of Rs 151.1 on 10 May 2021. The stock hit a 52-week low of Rs 28.5 on 12 Jun 2020.
